Rumor: iPod nano to get a camera

Sure, we’ve seen lesser rumors, and this one doesn’t exactly come in as the worst, but it’s certainly high up there. Pictures of a clasp-less iPod nano have surfaced online. The nano has a camea instead of the spring loaded clasp. The images look partially legit, but the reality of an iPod nano case with camera is a little bit hard to stomach, unless it’s primary objective was an avatar generating machine.

I just can’t grasp what a camera in an iPod nano would accomplish. It’s not exactly easy to hold in your hand to begin with, given the size. Plus, if the next generation iPod nano does get a camera like it’s rumored to, it may also be getting a 1.3 megapixel camera. I’m pretty sure I can speak for everyone when I say the iPad 2 camera is bad enough. Why on earth would we want a similarly crappy camera in an iPod nano? It’s not exactly 2001.

Also, it’s probably important to point out that the previous generation nano had a camera built into it. Apple pulled them out when they decided on the new, smaller form factor. If it finds its way back into the iPod nano, a lot of people are going to be plenty unhappy.

Either way, my iPod nano stays attached to my wrist with a Griffin Slapcase. I don’t see myself wanting to pop it out to snap pictures at any time in the future. Now, if it had a front facing camera, Wi-Fi, and FaceTime, I may just be forced to upgrade. Taking video calls from my watch would pretty much be as badass as it gets, at least for us geeks.

Unfortunately, we’re filing this one away, and we’ll be sure to follow up on it once we see new nanos. But for now, I’d recommend moving on. There isn’t much to see here.
