Spotify for iOS takes audio quality to the EXTREME

Spotify, the popular streaming music service, can now play very high quality music on iOS as well as the desktop. Previously, the Spotify app for iOS had two modes: 96 Kbps Low Bandwidth and 160 Kbps High Bandwidth. With this latest update, iOS users now have an “Extreme” option that streams the audio at an impressive 320 Kbps. That’s even higher than music purchased through iTunes or Amazon.

Of course, if you want to use Spotify on iOS, you’re going to need to pony-up $9.99 USD per month. That’s a fine price if it has the music that you want, but a quick search found that they didn’t have Led Zeppelin or Metallica. Unsurprisingly, The Beatles are iTunes only at this point as well. Perhaps the $9.99 price tag will be an easier sell when their catalog grows a bit more.

Also worth noting is the addition of one-tap login thanks to the Facebook integration. This will surely come in hand for those of us who hate managing passwords, and are willing to put up with Facebook’s nonsense for the convenience.
