Robot Unicorn Attack gets universal support, native iPad version vanishes

Originally an immensely popular Adult Swim flash game, Robot Unicorn Attack, quickly became an iOS hit when it came to the platform back in mid-2010. It’s an infinite side-scroller where you play, you guessed it, a robotic unicorn, and the object of the game is to “dash your way through the sky in pursuit of your dreams.” The game will assault your eyeballs with rainbows and glitter and happiness and everything unicornesque – all of this happens while Erasure’s Always plays on loop in the background. What’s not to love?

After seeing two follow-up games, Heavy Metal Edition and the holiday Christmas Edition, Adult Swim eventually developed a native iPad version of the original RUA. However, yesterday they released the original as an iOS universal app, and the native iPad version has disappeared.

The two sequels haven’t yet been updated with universal support, but as the developer did in the past with the Retina display improvements, we’re pretty sure that fans can expect it to happen in the coming future. As for the iPad version, it’s unclear whether or not it will be returning. As TouchArcade said, it wouldn’t really make a whole lot of sense to have two iPad apps now that the game is officially universal. But what does that mean for those of you who already at the original iPad version? Who knows.

One thing is for certain, though. The game is a metric buttload of fun, so go download it.
