CES 2015: Knowroaming Wants To Save You Money When You Travel Abroad

American mobile carriers are notorious for charging their customers huge roaming fees when traveling abroad. Those with unlocked phones can skip out on these fees by purchasing local SIM cards abroad, but that can be a hassle, especially if you’re traveling between cities or are only in town for a couple of days. With the SIM Sticker, Knowroaming tries to give you the best of both words—the convenience of a roaming plan with the cost of a local SIM.

You attach the Sticker SIM to the bottom of your everyday SIM card using the included applicator. The SIM then interfaces with the Knowroaming app and lets you add data and talk time to use when roaming. You can use Knowroaming on a pay-as-you-go basis or with a daily unlimited plan that does not interfere with your data or voice plan at home. The device works with all SIM card sizes, though your phone must be unlocked in order to use the SIM Sticker.

Knowroaming also built an optional service called ReachMe into the SIM Sticker. This service forwards all calls from your home number to your SIM sticker, ensuring that you’ll never miss a call when in transit.

The Knowroaming SIM Sticker and applicator is available now for $30.
