MacBook Air Gets A Price Drop, Better Battery, New CPU

Apple has quietly updated its MacBook Air line this morning. The company has discounted all introductory models by $100.00. The 11-inch model is now $899.00; the 13-inch model weighs in at $999.00.

If battery life is of importance to you, Apple has updated the MacBook Air with a little more juice, giving the 11-inch model an extra hour of battery life and the 13-inch model two more hours of life.

In addition to the price cut and battery bump, Apple has also included a slight CPU bump in the MacBook Air. This version of the Air now has a 1.4GHz Core i5 chip, up from 1.3GHz in previous models.

What’s not included in the update? Well, it looks like it may be a while before we see a MacBook Air with Retina display.

A lot of people disagree with me, considering they go out and buy MacBook Pros despite my encouragement to buy an Air, but the MacBook Air is easily the best Mac I’ve ever owned. Unless you’re editing a lot of video, or spend all day editing photos or doing other graphic design-type work, the Air will easily live up to your needs.

Unless the MacBook Pro gets the same footprint as the Air (I still edit video from time to time), I won’t by purchasing anything but the Air in the foreseeable future. It’s that good.
